Buying a mattress is a big investment, and you want it to last. That’s why most shoppers feel reassured when they hear the word “warranty.”
But here’s the catch: mattress warranties in NZ don’t always cover what you think they do.
At Beds4U, we often hear from customers who thought their warranty would protect them from every issue, only to be surprised when certain problems weren’t included.
This guide will help clear things up before you’re caught off guard.
What’s Covered Under a Beds4U Warranty
At Beds4U, every mattress is designed and built to high standards so you can enjoy years of comfort and support.
To back this up, our products generally come with a 5–10 year warranty against manufacturing defects and faulty materials.
Here’s what you need to know about how it works:
- Repair or replacement: If we’re satisfied that your mattress is faulty and not providing the comfort it should, we’ll repair or replace it at our discretion during the warranty period.
- Adjustment period: It’s normal for your body to need 3–4 weeks to adjust to a new bed. Some initial aches may happen, especially if switching from an older mattress. This is not considered a defect.
- Exclusions: The warranty does not extend to normal wear and tear, or damage caused by misuse, abuse, or negligence.
- Sanitary condition: We cannot service a mattress found to be in an unsanitary condition, or when the problem is caused by something other than faulty workmanship or materials.
- Use a protector: We strongly advise always using a mattress protector. Under Health & Safety guidelines, the warranty is void if the mattress has stains.
- Material substitutions: If the original materials are no longer available, we reserve the right to use alternative, identical-quality materials.
-
Fabric concerns: Any fabric defects must be reported to the retailer within two weeks of purchase. After that, fabric issues are treated as normal wear and tear and are not covered.
What’s Not Covered
While a Beds4U warranty protects against genuine faults, it doesn’t apply to every situation.
Here are the most common issues that are not covered:
- Minor irregularities: Small manufacturing variations that don’t affect your mattress's performance.
- Normal body impressions: Indentations of up to 35mm are considered natural. You can measure this by removing sheets, placing a straight edge (like a broomstick) across the mattress, and checking the gap.
- Damage from misuse: Any harm to the mattress or base caused by abuse, rough handling, or misuse.
-
Non-authorised purchases: Beds bought from non-authorised retailers, or products received as giveaways or promotions, are not covered.
How to Protect Your Warranty
If you want your warranty to stay valid, the first step is to make sure your mattress has the right support.
Always place it on a solid bed frame or base that meets the manufacturer’s guidelines, as the wrong foundation can cause damage that isn’t covered.
It’s also important to keep your mattress clean. A high-quality mattress protector will help guard against spills, dust, and stains that could void your warranty.
Another way to protect your investment is to rotate your mattress regularly. This simple habit helps even out wear and prevents deep body impressions from forming in one spot.
Finally, keep your receipt and warranty documents in a safe place. If you ever need to make a claim, proof of purchase will be essential to confirm your coverage.
