Be honest. Do you know you keep your partner awake at night with snores that could only be described as akin to those a farm animal makes?
Or are they the ones who get an elbow to the ribs when they let out an echoing snore around the bedroom?
Whoever the culprit is, it would be helpful to get some tips on how to stop it, right?
Why do you snore?
Basically, snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and it occurs when air flows through your throat when you breathe while you are sleeping. It forms a sound that may be soft or loud. This irregular airflow caused due to different reasons like the blockage in the nasal, fat gathering around the throat, miss-positioned jaw, wrong sleeping position and more.
Other than this, there are umpteen of reasons due to which you snore and it is very important to understand all of them so that you can treat your snoring problem easily.
TIPS TO STOP SNORING…
Avoid alcohol and smoking
When you consume alcohol it relaxes the muscles in your throat and this adds to your snoring. Try to skip it especially before you go to sleep. Whereas, smoking irritates the lining of the nasal cavity and throat, causing swelling and catarrh. If the nasal passages become congested, it’s difficult to breathe through your nose because the airflow is decreased, so you can talk to the doctor to help you quit or cut down smoking.
Maintain a healthy weight
Extra fat increases the number of tissues in the throat and this increases snoring. So if you will start doing regular exercise, jogging or yoga it will help you in reducing your weight and with this, it’ll also treat your snoring problem. For good result, you can consult a doctor or a nutritionist.
Try to sleep on your side
Try to sleep on your side rather than your back. While sleeping on your back, your tongue, chin and any excess fatty tissue under your chin can relax and squash your airway. Sleeping on your side prevents this.
Know about your allergies
Allergies can actually curtail the amount of airflow and due to which you breathe through your mouth and this increases your snoring. So consult your doctor and treat your chronic allergy as this may improve your condition of snoring.
If your snoring persists, it might be necessary to seek medical help. For some cases of snoring, surgery to fix structural problems in the airways, such as enlarged adenoids, is necessary
If your snoring is caused by looseness in your soft palate (the soft upper part at the back of the mouth), a technique called radiofrequency ablation, which uses heat energy to tighten the palate, may help.
So consider these tips and reduce your snoring because I know you don’t want to break off your sleep as well as your partner.
